In 2024, the Forum for Integrated Risk Mitigation (F.I.R.M.) joined forces with JoziMyJozi to participate in a transformative inner-city clean-up campaign. What began as a Mandela Day initiative quickly evolved into something deeper: an awakening to the idea that meaningful change should not be reserved for one day a year. That effort, which brought together volunteers, city partners and residents, sparked renewed energy around a powerful concept: Every day should be Mandela Day.
As a proud security partner and advocate for sustainable community upliftment, F.I.R.M. fully supports JoziMyJozi’s 2025 campaign theme, “Every Day is Mandela Day,” a call to individuals, businesses, and organisations to take ownership by adopting a project that contributes to the city’s long-term well-being.
Why Project Adoption Matters
JoziMyJozi has curated a list of impactful, ready-to-adopt projects across Johannesburg, from school refurbishments and food gardens to police station upgrades and community sports facilities. These projects are not symbolic; they are practical, visible, and rooted in community transformation.
F.I.R.M. believes there is a direct link between neglected spaces and public risk. Unkempt areas often attract unlawful behaviour, illegal dumping, and vandalism, ultimately weakening the social fabric. But when businesses, civic organisations, and residents step in and adopt these spaces, the change is immediate. Crime rates fall, community pride rises, and a culture of shared responsibility emerges.
Mandela Day is Just the Beginning
While Mandela Day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of service and sacrifice, JoziMyJozi’s message urges us to think beyond a single date. True change requires consistency. Adopting a project transforms Mandela Day from a moment into a movement.
This attitude is about stepping up, taking ownership, and staying involved, not just in July, but every day. Through this mindset, we can embed safety, pride, and resilience in Johannesburg’s neighbourhoods.
How You Can Get Involved
We invite other businesses, NGOs, schools, and faith-based groups to join this movement. Whether you offer resources, funding, labour, or ongoing maintenance, your involvement can change the trajectory of a space, a street, or an entire community.
Are you unsure of how to get started? JoziMyJozi has identified various projects for you to choose from that fit your values and capacity.
Let’s Build a Safer, Stronger Johannesburg Together
Change doesn’t happen by chance; it happens when people step up, take ownership, and invest in the spaces they live and work in. At F.I.R.M., we believe that by combining security expertise with civic action, we can protect what matters most: our communities.
Let’s commit to making every day a Mandela Day, not with words, but through meaningful action.
